First settled in 1841, by John
Neely Bryan as a trading post near the banks of the Trinity
River, Dallas has since matured into a culturally diverse city
with museums, theaters, gourmet restaurants and huge shopping
districts. Dallas is the Southwest's leading business and
financial center. It boasts the largest wholesale market in the
world, lays claim to being one of the top convention cities in
the nation and the number one visitor destination in Texas.
There is much more but these are just a few reasons why Dallas
is considered by many, as the Southwest's most metropolitan and
cosmopolitan city. The City of Dallas had a population in 2000
by the U.S. Census of 1,188,580. A revised population figure for
Jan. 2006 by The North Central Texas Council of Governments put
the total at 1,260,950.
